      soccer The Columbia Central Lady Lions soccer team took on Columbia Academy Thursday night at the Lindsey Nelson stadium. The Lady Lions are looking to rebound after losing this past Tuesday at home game against Lincoln County.

Scoring started early with CA forward Taylor Lofton placing a shot in the lower left corner against CHS goalie Maddie Fraser.

CHS freshman, Destini Martinez, looked to put the Lady Lions on the board early when she went in for an attempt but was unsuccessful for the start of the game. Martinez was sure she wouldn’t fall short as she battled with CA’s goalie Kaylen Stamatis and got knocked to her knees. Martinez was awarded a penalty kick and scored the first goal of the game for CHS and evened the match at 1-1.

CHS senior Sydni Cothron and sophmore Emily Cheek had great defensive plays in the first half. Junior Kinsley Dye, rallied for 2 attempts going face to face with CA’s goalie. While freshman Yeydi Carrascoza, scored a goal ending off the first half with the Lady Lions leading CA 2-1.

To continue things in the second half, Cheek had outstanding defense and knew her way to the ball. The Lady Lions had great connections with the ball and very good defense. In the 14th minute, junior Lakeisha Rosales gained another goal for Columbia Central. Emily Cheek scored from a penalty kick with 1:47 left in the game. CHS right defender Lillian Moore had outstanding hustle during the game. The Lady Lions performed a well played match and earned the victory over CA, 4-1. With this win CHS improves to 1-2 on the season.

   Columbia Central will host district opponent Coffee County Central next Tuesday night at the Raider Academy Soccer Field . The game is set to start at 7 p.m.
